HSLS is the first party formed in 1989 when that was made possible (many politiciance now in other parties were initialy members of this one, most notably president Tudjman just before he formed his own party). During 1990's was strongest oposition party, and in 2000 in colation with SDP and four other parties won the elections. Suffered number of fractations, most notble when LS was formed, and recently when number of her ministers in the government broke up.

Member of LI (Liberal International), and ELDR (European Liberal Democrats Party - <www.eldr.org>). The party was the main coalition partner to SDP in 2000-2004. Due to several secessions and loss of votes it seems that the party has ever less influence...
Source describing the emblems and the flag: Statut HSLS, 20.05.2000 <www.hsls.hr>.

The party establishied in 1989, was in oposition during Tudman's time, then as main colaition partner with Social Democratic Party of Croatia, SDP and four other parties being in govenmnent 200-2004. After the loss of elections the party splited (splinter group forming the Liberal Party, LS). The HSLS formed colaition with Croatian Democratic Union, HDZ and has several ministry places in 2004-2008 government. In 2006 the LS and HSLS united again, changing the party emblems.   The Statutes of HSLS adopted in 2006 describes the flag and emblem of the party at <www.hsls.hr>. The new emblem consists of blue italic block letters HSLS followed by a red square dot and underined with a yellow arched line. The flag is described as rectangular with the emblem in it - presumably being white flag with the emblem in the middle.
